ATATÜRK AND THE ZEYBEK FOLK DANCE

Atatürk appreciated Selim Sırrı Tarcan’s works of choreography on Zeybek dances to create a saloon dancing style and said the following words:

“Selim Sırrı has given a civilised shape to Zeybek dances. This work has been accepted by all of us and has nicely developed enough to take a place in our national and social life. What is more, we can say we have also a proper dance for the Europeans. Zeybek can be danced in every saloon and with a lady partner.
